An Important Guide to Skin Type Awareness
The skin is the largest organ of the body. A healthy-looking skin with a youthful glow contributes to self-confidence. When blemishes start to appear on the skin, this can cause a person to feel conscious about her physical appearance. A radiant skin is always something to be proud of.
The skin can be categorized into 5 major types. It is important that you know your skin type to determine best skin care regimen for you.
1. Normal Skin
This is the kind of skin that every person would want to have. It is regarded as healthy, not too oily and not too dry either. It has few imperfections or blemishes and appears smooth, firm and has small pores. The skin has good elasticity. When the skin is stretched from the bony structure underneath, it springs back to place. Also, the lines and creases are just right for the person’s age.
2. Dry Skin
Exposure to harmful and strong elements, environmental factors and lack of moisture in the skin can cause flaking off of its uppermost layer. The skin also feels tight on your face and lacks natural moisture and oils. The skin appears flaky and has tiny pores, blackheads and spots of blemishes. Inadequate water can cause the skin to lose moisture which leads to chapping. People with dry skin are more prone to developing wrinkles as they age.
3. Oily Skin
Oily skin is characterized by a coarse and oily complexion with recurring acne and black heads. Pores are also large and the skin’s texture is thick and sticky. People with oily skin tend to appear more youthful due to excessive oil in their skin. Oily skin is also more prone to acne especially among teens and middle-aged individuals due to overgrowth of oil glands also known as sebaceous hyperplasia.
4. Combination Skin
This type of skin varies according to a person’s skin type. It is referred to as the Jekyll and Hyde skin type with split characteristics. The T-zone is often the oily part (this is the region that stretches along the forehead going down to the nose and chin), and then the area of the cheeks and around the eyes are normal to dry.
5. Sensitive Skin
This is the type of skin that is prone to rashes, irritation, allergies, burns and stings. People with sensitive skin are also prone to having blotches and red spots when exposed to irritants. They will most likely have difficulty adjusting to certain environment and need to practice extreme caution when using cosmetics.
It is important that you know your skin type in order to properly care for it. Remember that having a skin that is beautiful and radiant is a plus factor to your personality.
It is natural for humans to have some vanity. People tend to pay a lot of attention to their appearance especially their skin.
Since the skin is the largest organ of the body, it is natural to care for it. Good skin contributes to a person’s beauty and wellness.
A fit and healthy body should be coupled with a youthful and glowing skin.
