Herbs For Great Skin
You do not have to go through drastic measures or expensive treatments just to have clear, beautiful skin. You can easily do that using natural means. In fact, you do not have to go far and wide just to look for the right medicine to make your skin beautiful. Right in your own backyard, you may just have the essential herbs that help clear the skin and create a balance of your hormones.
One of these herbs is the Dandelion root. Scientifically going by the name Taraxacum offcinale, dandelion is a rather common meadow herb belonging to the Asteraceae or sunflower family known to have detoxifying properties.
Rumex crispus or more commonly called Yellow Dock is a great systemic toner, having astringent and antimicrobial properties. It contains tannis (an astringent) and anthraquinones (an antimicrobial). Yellow Doc is effective in treating psoriasis and eczema and other forms of skin rashes.
Sarsaparilla or Smiilax offcinalls grows in the tropical parts of America and the West Indies. A vine with prickly stems, Sarsaparilla is generally known as a blood purifier.
Accordingly, a component of Sarsaparilla, Sarsaponin, is believed to bind to the endotoxins and remove them, thus persons with psoriasis and other skin diseases (like eczema, arthritis, ulcerative colitis) who are found to have high levels of endotoxins in the blood are relieved of the disease.
Sarsaparilla can be combined with Yellow Dock in order to come up with an effective treatment for psoriasis and other chronic skin diseases.
Using Purple Coneflower powder (Echinacea Purpurea) can give you the protection that you need so bacteria and viruses responsible for skin inflammatory conditions cannot easily invade your body.
These wildflowers used to be seen in the United States and Canada only, but they are now also being grown in Europe, North America and some parts of Asia. The Purple Coneflower can be ingested in oral form to boost the immune system. Topically, they can relieve signs associated with eczema, insect bites, and psoriasis.
The blossom of the Red Clover (Trifolium Pratense) contains a lot of Vitamin B-complex, and has been used to remove toxins from the bloodstream. For relief of insect bites, the flower can be chopped or mashed and then applied directly to the skin.
Nowadays, there are creams, lotions and ointments that contain red clover extract coming out in the market, but they have yet to be proven effective in the treatment of psoriasis and other skin ailments.
Ingesting the required dosage of licorice or Glycyrrhiza glaba can significantly reduce inflammation and lightens the redness of the skin. It has been used, in fact, in poultices to treat dermatitis and other skin infections. Licorice is often combined with other cleansing herbs.
The Atlantic Kelp or Ascophyllum nodosum contains polygalactosides, fucose polymers and ursolic acid, compounds essential in the production of cosmetics as they are rich in praline, glycine and lycine, the amino acids responsible in maintaining the elasticity of the skin. A detoxifer and blood purifier, the Atlantic Kelp also has anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce skin blemishes.
Last but not least of the important herbs essential to skin care is the Cayenne pepper or Capsicum Fructescens. When applied topically to the skin, the hot and spicy Cayenne pepper can relieve pain and itching. Cayenne also acts as a carrier agent, stimulating and assisting other essential ingredients to the sebaceous glands the pores of the skin.
The dandion contains bitter compounds, choline, inulin, minerals like calcium, sodium, silicic acid, and sulphur, potassion and fresh leaves.
Being so, the dandelion is believed to be effective in treating skin blemishes.
The root of Burdoc (Arctium lappa) is another effective remedy for skin cancer, acne, eczema, and many others.
A thistled plant coming from Northern USA, Europe and Asia, Burdoc has mild antibiotic properties and has been found to help restore the smoothness of the skin.
